Havana, July 19 (RHC) – Cuban outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is close to returning to the New York Mets, declared the team’s interim manager, Andy Green.
According to the source, the Cuban outfielder could rejoin the New York Yankees for the series they will play in Milwaukee starting Monday. “He’s looking better and better, and we’re excited to add Robert’s bat to the lineup,” Green told the New York Post.
The Cuban, acquired in January via trade with the Chicago White Sox, hasn’t played since April 26 due to a herniated disc in his lower back.
In 24 games with his new team, the 28-year-old had two home runs and eight RBIs before suffering the back injury.
The day before, the outfielder played eight innings in center field for the Triple-A team in Syracuse; he went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
In total, in eight rehabilitation games between Double-A (Binghamton) and Triple-A, Robert batted .323 (10 of 31), with two home runs and four RBIs.
