Cuba’s top authorities, led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, congratulated women this Sunday on the 66th anniversary of the founding of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).
On social media, the head of state affirmed that the FMC reaches this new anniversary “with the same strength and love as the first day… remaining true to the trust of #FidelForever.”
Likewise, the president publicly expressed his appreciation and recognition to Cuban women “who inspire us so much with their work, above any difficulty.”
Díaz-Canel declared, “We are counting on you for all the tasks of the Revolution. As Fidel Castro said, ‘The women of this nation are invincible.’”
For his part, the Party’s Secretary of Organization, Roberto Morales, joining in the congratulations, sent them “A huge embrace to all of you!”
Roberto Morales recalled the brilliant unified work of Fidel Castro and Vilma Espín in creating the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), “more necessary today than ever in every community and in the ongoing promotion of the Women’s Advancement Program,” he added.
Meanwhile, the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo, conveyed “heartfelt congratulations to all the members of the Federation.”
In his greeting, he evoked the thoughts of the historical leader, Fidel Castro, who described women as a decisive force for our Revolution. He also affirmed that women on the island are “protagonists in the main tasks of the nation.”
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, on this occasion, delved into the historical thought of the Caribbean nation and affirmed that Cuban women are heirs to Mariana Grajales, Vilma Espín, Celia Sánchez, and so many other courageous comrades.
“You have always been, even in the most difficult times, that transformative force that, through your participation, makes the work invincible,” the Prime Minister of the Caribbean country reaffirmed.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, joining in the congratulations, asserted that under the leadership and enduring legacy of Vilma Espín, Cuban women have worked tirelessly for equality, inclusion, and non-discrimination. The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) was created on August 23, 1960, after the merger of all existing women’s organizations in Cuba at that time.
Vilma Espín, a clandestine fighter and combatant in the Rebel Army under Fidel Castro, was elected as its president.
The FMC was established as the main objective is the integration of women into society and employment, as well as into the program of social and economic changes in Cuba.
