Deputy foreign minister denounces military incitement against Cuba

by Ed Newman

Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, denounced on his Facebook profile the incitement of a military intervention against the island reflected in an article published by the U.S. network CBS.

The diplomat pointed out that the text, written by four authors and dated July 15, describes options considered by U.S. military planners for possible actions against Cuba, which constitutes a real threat of aggression.

Fernández de Cossío questioned why the report did not include questions about the political, legal or moral justification for a potential military operation against a country that has neither attacked nor threatened the world’s largest nuclear power.

“CBS is once again beating the drums of war against Cuba,” the deputy minister wrote, emphasizing that the article assumes the unofficial voice of the U.S. government and omits the human consequences of military aggression.

The foreign ministry official stressed that the publication reflects complicity and apparent impartiality, without considering the cost in lives, bloodshed, and destruction that a military adventure would entail for the Cuban people.

This denunciation adds to Cuba’s repeated warnings about Washington’s hostile policy and the need for the international community to reject any attempt at intervention.
