President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced on Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump, unable to justify the punishment against Cuba and its genocidal economic war, repeated at the United Nations that the island represents “a threat to the U.S.”
In a message on the social network, the Cuban head of state reaffirmed: “We will continue fighting for peace, defending our sovereignty and working together to overcome the ruthless aggression imposed on us by the American government.”
When speaking at the High Level Segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Trump resorted to the repeated argument that “Cuba is an absolutely failed state” — a possible pretext for military aggression against the country some 90 miles from the United States.
Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez also reacted to the slander on the social network itself: “The US government is incapable of accepting that Cuba is, and has the right to be, a fully independent and sovereign country.”
The island’s foreign minister warned that “none of the US President’s falsehoods at the UN and no slander can or will be able to deny that fact.”
“Cuba is not a threat to the United States or to any country,” said the head of Cuban diplomacy and stressed that “the economic blockade, including the energy siege, does threaten Cuba and the rest of the nations. It is an act of genocide and collective punishment. We are a country of peace and we deserve peace.”
