“One of the main objectives of French solidarity is to pressure our members of parliament to take a stand on the situation in Cuba,” declared Nicole Giraudi, president of France Cuba Marseille.
A debate on the Cuban issue is expected to take place this Thursday, June 11th, in the French National Assembly, which will be accompanied by demonstrations outside the building by solidarity groups with the island, under a policy of US strangulation.
Both Giraudi and Alain Sicre, representative of Cuba Cooperation, were part of the organizations that gathered on June 8th in front of the Marseille prefecture, as were the Moncada Association and the Movement for Peace.
Members of the League of Human Rights also participated in this action, denouncing the impact of the US blockade on the Cuban population.
“It’s impossible to live in Cuba today because of the measures adopted by Donald Trump,” Giraudi laments. Numerous urgent medical surgeries have been postponed, and the water is no longer potable due to the accumulation of waste, Sicre stated.
Although local organizations continue to mobilize, they believe they have reached their limit.
“We can no longer send containers. We have some stored, ready to depart, with medical equipment, baby food, and other supplies,” Sicre explains.
However, transporting aid has become almost impossible, especially since the shipping company CMA CGM stopped operating shipments to Cuba.
“The government can act and ensure that French companies continue supporting Cuba,” said Nicole Giraudi.
