Havana, August 8 (RHC) – The Puerto Rican women’s volleyball team defeated Cuba by a score of 3-0 in the bronze medal match of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026.
In the match played on Friday at the Ricardo Arias Volleyball Palace in Havana, the Cuban women’s volleyball team was defeated by Puerto Rico in three straight sets, 26-24, 25-23, and 25-18, finishing in fourth place in the tournament.
True to their status as favorites, the players from the host country, the Dominican Republic, captured their seventh consecutive Central American and Caribbean title and their ninth overall in these regional competitions in front of their home crowd, sweeping Colombia 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, and 25-21).
A total of eight teams—Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica—competed in the women’s volleyball competition of the oldest regional tournament in the world.
For fifth place in the tournament, the Mexicans defeated the Venezuelans 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-20), who finished sixth, while for seventh place the Costa Ricans beat the Trinidadians 3-0 (25-11, 25-20 and 30-28), who thus finished eighth.
