Russia reiterates willingness to support Cuba materially and politically

by Ed Newman

Moscow has confirmed its readiness to continue providing Havana with the necessary material and political assistance, according to a statement released on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official website.

“Our country confirms its firm readiness to continue providing the necessary political and material support to Cuba,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published Saturday on its Telegram channel.

On March 30, the Russian oil tanker Anatoly Koldkin, carrying a humanitarian shipment of 100,000 tons of crude oil, arrived at the Port of Matanzas, amid the energy blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.

According to the ministry, the fuel shipment to the Caribbean nation has become a tangible manifestation of Russian-Cuban friendship.

On January 29, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order authorizing him to impose tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba.

These actions by Washington are causing a severe fuel shortage in Cuba, affecting electricity generation and vital sectors of the economy, including transportation, food production, healthcare, and education, among others, the Cuban government reported.
