Varadero, Jun 13 (RHC) - The Matanzas team started off on the right foot by beating Santiago de Cuba 21-7 in the water polo cup for masters Hermanos Martínez Ginoris.

On the first day of a calendar that will last until June 15 in this seaside city, Jhoen Lefont was the protagonist of the match.

With six goals for the home team, Lefont showed excellent physical shape as he prepares for his next challenge: to beat the record for the most touches on a ball with his head, with 15 kilos (30 punds) of ballast, this Saturday at the same pool.

Dalia Grau, a former member of Cuba's women's national team, was the best of the Santiagueros with three goals. 

Despite the defeat, the experienced player appreciated the opportunity to compete again with old friends.

Santiago de Cuba will have a key duel this Friday against Havana, seeking to recover after the initial setback.
