Havana, Jun 12 (RHC) The Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championship for Adults opened its doors today in Panama with the participation of 178 athletes from 24 countries.

The competition, which runs until Sunday, June 15, will be vital in the Olympic cycle calendar, as it will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Cuba will participate with nine gymnasts, informed Pedro Pablo Barrios, national commissioner of the discipline.

The men's team will be led by Diorges Escobar, who won the top accumulator competition and the fixed bar at the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

He will be accompanied by Yohendri Villaverde, Alexander Sánchez, Argenis Castañeda, and Darían Rodríguez.

The four women who will compete for Cuba are: Gélidis Reginfo, Keyla Leyva, Maykelis Rivero, and Danny Roll.

This event offers eight places for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, and the goal is to qualify the two teams, said the executive.
