Havana, June 2 (RHC) - Tigres de Ciego de Avila batted less, but showed more precise productivity and defeated Leñadores de Las Tunas 6x3 to go ahead 2-0 in the final of the III Elite League of Cuban Baseball.
In its José Ramón Cepero stadium, the troop of Olympic champion mentor Danny Miranda hit 10 hits against 12 of the rival, who showed lethal offensive unproductivity and left a dozen runners on the pads.
It was a duel of acceptable pitching, which was tied 3x3 at the end of the seventh inning, in which Yordanis Samón decided with a home run with to playes on the pads against the second reliever, Rodolfo Díaz, the eventual loser.
Sixth win without defeat in the tournament for right-hander Yunier Batista, who, supported by his (almost) untouchable sinker ball, pitched solid relief for 3.0 acts, with only two hits and a couple of strikeouts, without allowing walks.
For the Tigres, Dennis Laza also homered for the second consecutive game. In a losing cause, Yordanis Alarcón and Osvaldo Abreu hit three hits for the Leñadores of manager Abeicy Pantoja, who for the first time opened a national or Elite League final with an unfavorable score of 0-2.
The third game of this duel will be played next at the Julio Antonio Mella Park, where the local team is forced to win, as a third setback would put them on the verge of losing.
In pursuit of that goal, Pantoja announced left-hander Eliander Bravo, while right-hander Kevin Soto will do the same for the Ciego de Ávila squad.
