Caracas, June 16 (RHC)-- In the context of the attacks perpetrated by Israeli forces against the offices of the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) in Tehran, the multi-state broadcaster issued a statement condemning the interruption of the state channel's live broadcast due to this "deliberate act of violence," which it described as "unacceptable and intolerable under any circumstances."  It also states that this constitutes a "direct attack on freedom of expression, the right to information, and the very lives of journalists and media workers."

Through this statement, teleSUR reminds us that "the media are essential civilian actors, even in conflict contexts, and their protection must be a priority." It also denounces that "the escalation of attacks against non-military infrastructure represents a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which seeks to intimidate media professionals and limit the flow of information."

The multi-platform news organization recalled that "unfortunately, this attack is part of a growing pattern of violence and harassment against journalists and media outlets in the Global South. This occurs in a context of narrative hegemony by Western media and platforms, where disinformation exacerbates confrontations.

In this regard, teleSUR highlights the "need to preserve communication channels, which contribute to the diversity of views and voices on growing geopolitical tensions and to dialogue between nations."

In line with its commitment to responsible journalism, teleSUR "reaffirms its stance in favor of peace and respect for the integrity of peoples, without external interference. At the same time, it makes "an urgent call to the international community, human rights organizations, and states committed to press freedom to condemn these attacks against media outlets."

Finally, "teleSUR expresses its willingness to collaborate with IRIB in the recovery of its operations."
