
Mexico wins Gold Cup Tournament
Havana, July 7 (RHC) - Mexico defeated the United States in the final of the 2025 Gold Cup and revalidated the title won in the last 2023 edition.
Chris Richards put the locals ahead at Houston's NRG Stadium with a locker room goal in the fourth minute of the match.
The Tricolor kept their composure and at 27' they restored parity with a great goal by Raúl Jiménez.
In the second half, the Mexicans controlled the match and deserved the victory with a header by Edson Álvarez at 77'.
This was the sixth victory over the U.S. team in the finals of this competition, after those achieved in the 1993, 1998, 2009, 2011, and 2019 editions.
It was also the tenth time they have been crowned with the current format (1993, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023), as well as trophies in the CONCACAF Nations Championship (1965, 1971, and 1977), the previous tournament of the current Gold Cup.
The team coached by Javier Aguirre is confirmed as the best team in CONCACAF after recently winning the Nations League.
