Havana, March 22 (RHC-PL), -- The 21st Meeting of National Coordinators of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), scheduled to be held in El Salvador, March 23-24, will contribute to establishing joint strategies to tackle regional challenges.

According to Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno, at a time when external actors threaten the stability of the region, it is vital to strengthen unity within CELAC, as a mechanism for political consensus to defend common interests and peace.

In an interview released by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Moreno noted  that the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of peace is more relevant than ever given the current international situation.

He said that one of the essential elements of this document is the acknowledgement of every state’s right to choose their own political, economic, social and cultural systems.

As such, addressed during the meeting will be the latest actions and statements from the United States government which affect the region; the search for mechanisms to improve the functioning of the bloc; and preparation for the upcoming CELAC-European Union Summit, set for October.
