United Nations, June 13 (RHC)-- The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on Thursday demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of the hostages, and Israeli accountability.

The resolution was passed with 149 votes in favor, 12 against (United States, Israel, Argentina, Hungary, Paraguay, Fiji, Palau, Papua, Micronesia, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Nauru), and 19 abstentions.

The legal remedy demands immediate and permanent access for large-scale humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip. It also promotes a UN-coordinated plan to resume humanitarian aid deliveries to the Palestinian territory.  It also demands the possibility of providing fuel, equipment, shelter, and access to clean water without delay to the people of Gaza.

The resolution reiterates the need for a two-state solution, with the Gaza Strip as part of the State of Palestine, as well as the rejection of demographic changes in Gaza and the West Bank, forced displacement plans, and deportations of protected persons from the occupied territory.

The document condemned the use of starvation as a method of warfare in the Palestinian enclave and stressed the importance of Israeli accountability. At the same time, it called on member states to take the necessary measures in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.

It also calls for Israel to allow humanitarian access to the entire civilian population of the Gaza Strip and to respect the principles of "humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence, in coordination with the United Nations."

The signatories of the resolution demanded that Israel end the siege and open all border crossings.

Before the vote, Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riad Mansour spoke of the injustices suffered by the citizens of Gaza and condemned the attacks against the civilian population.

"No weapons, no money, no trade to oppress Palestinians, to subject them to ethnic cleansing and steal their lands," Riad Mansour added.

The Palestinian representative urged the world community to end the genocide and asserted that “this conflict will not end with more massacres, more occupation, more displacement, and more annexations.”

“We want to end this illegal occupation… we want two states living together in peace and security,” he added, adding that time is running out and it is imperative to act now to save “Gaza, Palestine, and peace,” Mansur emphasized.

According to the latest daily statistical report from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, hospitals in the Gaza Strip have seen 103 martyrs and 427 wounded in the past 24 hours. The total death toll from Israeli massacres has risen to 55,207 dead and 127,821 injured since October 2023.
