Díaz-Canel and Lula participate in the Summit for a New World Financial Pact.

Havana, June 22 (RHC) - The first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel, and Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met on Thursday in Paris, a meeting that underlined the friendship between the two countries.

The meeting between the Latin American leaders took place as part of the collateral activities of the Summit for a New World Financial Pact, which was installed this morning to seek consensus on a more just financial architecture focused on facing the challenges of climate change and poverty.

On social media, the Cuban Presidency described the meeting as very cordial and recalled that it was the second between the heads of state this year, following the one they had in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in January during the VII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Earlier in the day, Díaz-Canel also met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and with the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, and participated in the opening of the two-day forum.

Regarding his attendance at the event organized by French President Emmanuel Macron, the Cuban leader affirmed that the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda must be accompanied by a deep rethinking of the current economic, financial, and trade order.

In that sense, he advocated for the establishment of new bases of justice, equity, and solidarity, with a new relationship between the North and the South. (Source: PL)
