Havana, October 3 (RHC) – Ludia Montero made an outstanding debut at the 2025 Ford World Weightlifting Championships, setting three national records for Cuba in the women’s 48-kilogram category.

The Granma native finished fourth in the snatch with a lift of 83 kg, which was her first domestic record of the Norwegian afternoon/evening.

According to Camilo Reinaldo Ramírez, national commissioner at the venue, in the clean and jerk event, she lifted 100 kg (also a record for the island) and placed tenth.

The combination of both exercises (183 kg) also earned her sixth place, a third record for her country.

North Korean Song Gum Ri emerged as the star of the category, earning the title and two world records.

Ri finished with 91 kg in the snatch, 122 kg in the clean and jerk, and 213 kg in the biathlon. The latter two marks went down in history as new world records.

The podium was completed by India’s Chanu Mirabai (84-115-199 kg) and Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen (88-110-198 kg).

The competition will continue this Friday with medals being contested in the men’s 60 kg and women’s 53 kg divisions.

The competition will run until October 11. Marifelix Sarría (+86 kg), Cuba’s other representative, will compete on that day.
