Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez congratulated Mauritanian politician and diplomat Ismail Ould on his election as the new Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
On the social media platform X, Rodríguez emphasized that this election was supported by the foreign ministers of the 57 member countries of the Organization and that Ismail will remain in office during the period 2027-2032.
“We wish him success in his high responsibility,” he stated.
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, born on November 9, 1960, is a Mauritanian diplomat and politician. He served as the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen and, as such, was head of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen from 2015 to 2018.
Prior to that post, Ahmed served as the United Nations Special Representative for the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response. He also served as Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. Before this new position, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania from June 11, 2018, to March 31, 2022.
