Havana, November 4 (RHC) – Cuba closed out the opening day of para-athletics at the VI Parapan American Youth Games with one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal at the Mario Recordón track in the National Stadium Park.

Daumey Elizalde, from Havana, won the first title for the Cuban delegation, dominating the 100 meters in the T46 class.

In the explosive race, Jairon Bouzá, from Villa Clara, completed the one-two finish in a thrilling finale, with Cuba taking center stage.

The other silver medal, in fact, the first for the delegation, was secured by Tairemy Navarro (T11-totally blind) from Camagüey, along with her guide Marcos Antonio Roldán, also in the hectometer.

Osbiel Palacios, from Pinar del Río, won the bronze medal in the 100 meters T46, which he described as his best performance, although he expressed dissatisfaction with the result.

Yamina de la Caridad Martínez (F-46) was unable to compete officially in the discus throw due to a lack of competitors. However, she demonstrated progress in her throws, improving her personal best of 21.91 meters with a throw of 22.27 meters, the same mark with which she won the National School Games this year.

In the women’s T47 100 meters, Havana native María Rosa Albarrán finished fourth.

The competition continues this Tuesday with morning and afternoon/evening sessions.

Meanwhile, the Cuban para weightlifting team concluded its training camp in Santiago, Chile, and will travel to the O’Higgins Region, the competition venue for the 7th, 8th, and 9th.

The para table tennis team returns to Havana this Tuesday.
