Havana, January 8 (RHC) – Four swimmers of each sex will represent Cuba this weekend in the Claude Sufrin In Memoriam 2026 tournament, scheduled to take place in Martinique.
The national swimming commissioner, Nelson García, pointed out that in the traditional winter competition on that Caribbean island, the Antilleans, all 17 years old or younger, will seek to improve their personal bests.
Helen de La Guardia, Analia de La Vega, Amanda Montero, and Adanays Alejandra Mencheros will be the girls competing, the latter two in backstroke and butterfly, respectively, in addition to freestyle.
Meanwhile, the boys will be Yadiel Estrada, Danilo Savín, Jairo Brito, and Alessandro Herrera, and with the exception of Estrada, the others will swim in more than one stroke.
Cuba participated in this competition in 2023, and its four representatives returned home with nine medals and a team trophy.
For the Cuban swimmers, the main competition of the year will be the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, for which they hope to secure around eight spots in the first half of the year.
