Global organizations reaffirm support for Cuba in defending its sovereignty and security

by Ed Newman

In the face of recent U.S. measures and pressure against Cuba, many organizations worldwide have reiterated their firm support for the island in protecting its security and sovereignty, emphasizing that this country does not represent a danger to the U.S., but rather an emblem of anti-imperialist resistance and solidarity.

The Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity, in a statement addressed to the communities of its Cuban chapter, denounced as cynical and false the claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump that the actions, policies, and practices of the Cuban government constitute an extraordinary and unusual threat.

Likewise, they emphasized in their message that the new measure represents a direct attack against all inhabitants of Cuba and their relatives abroad, regardless of their ideology, political affiliation, social status, or age.

Numerous organizations around the world have reaffirmed their firm support ✊ for Cuba in the defense of its national sovereignty and security, in the face of new measures and pressure from the United States government against the island.

The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Labor (PCT) expressed its opposition to the recent coercive measure, declaring it constitutes “an act of international piracy and a deliberate attempt to suffocate, through hunger and lack of energy, a dignified people who have decided to be masters of their own destiny.”

Likewise, the Coordinating Committee for Solidarity with Cuba, based in Guatemala, expressed its total and definitive condemnation of the recent executive order.

In El Salvador, many denounced the new imperial offensive; The Salvadoran Movement of Solidarity with Cuba emphasized that this step seeks to generate discontent, dissatisfaction, and unrest among Cubans in order to dismantle the Revolution from within, following the instructions of Under Secretary Lester Mallory’s 1960 memorandum.

The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), as well as the joint statement from the entities that make up the social-popular movement in El Salvador, also condemned this criminal escalation of the United States’ economic blockade against the island.

As the FMLN, we repudiate the actions of Donald Trump and his accomplices against a sovereign nation like Cuba.

Similarly, Mexico expressed its support for Cuba in the face of recent threats from the United States.

The José Martí Association of Cuban Residents in Mexico, the Confederation of Workers and Unions of Mexico, the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, and the Coalition of Democratic Urban and Rural Organizations, among other groups, denounced that the new agreement is not an isolated event, but rather represents the continuation of the economic conflict that the U.S. government has maintained for more than six decades against Cuba; in this regard, they reiterated their unwavering support for Cuba.

The ARLAC Association, the Socialist and Democratic Group of the European Parliament, and the Cuban Ardor Association, among other organizations in Europe, have denounced the US administration’s policy toward Cuba.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Democratic Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, Democratic Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Chuy García, and pro-Cuba organizations such as the Communist Party USA, The People’s Forum, and the peace movement CODEPINK, among others, criticized the measure as unjust, inhumane, and incompatible with international norms.

Each statement conveys a common message: Washington’s belligerent policy, and in particular Trump’s agenda toward Cuba, represent the real threat.
