Barcelona Withdraws From European Football’s Super League Project

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, February 7 (RCH) – FC Barcelona announced that it is officially abandoning the European football Super League project.

Through a statement on its official website, the Catalan club formally announced to the European Super League Company and the clubs that had participated in it its withdrawal from the European Super League project.

Club president Joan Laporta emphasized that “we want peace and sustainability in football. I came across the Super League and went ahead with it because I thought there were many differences with state-owned clubs.”

“The implementation of the plan has been delayed, and all this uncertainty is not in our best interest,” he acknowledged.

It’s worth remembering that Barcelona was one of the main driving forces behind the Super League project in 2021.

After the official announcement of the Blaugrana club’s decision, Real Madrid, led by Florentino Pérez and the Super League’s leader, was left alone and isolated in this project, which sought to create a new sporting and economic model for European football.

Previously, clubs of the caliber of AC Milan, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham had withdrawn.
