Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez briefed his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot, on the escalating U.S. aggression against the island, which includes the attempt to strangle it through an oil embargo.
Continuing a European tour that previously included stops in Spain and Russia, Rodríguez denounced the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that Washington has imposed on the island for more than 65 years, reinforced at the end of January by an executive order from President Donald Trump.
“We specifically addressed the escalating threats from the United States against Cuba, including the strengthening of measures aimed at depriving us of fuel supplies, with an impact on the fundamental rights of the Cuban people,” the Cuban foreign minister stated regarding the meeting held in this capital.
The top Cuban diplomat also specified that during the exchange of views, he emphasized the island’s determination to overcome the negative effects of the unilateral decision.
On January 29, Trump declared that Cuba represents an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security of the United States and threatened to impose tariffs on countries that supply or sell it oil.
According to Bruno Rodríguez, the meeting confirmed the favorable state of political, economic, trade, and cooperation ties between Paris and Havana.
“We also highlighted the importance of continuing to deepen our bilateral and multilateral dialogue on the basis of equality and reciprocity, and we discussed the complex and tense international context, marked by the threat and use of force, in violation of International Law and the UN Charter,” he added.
In this regard, the head of Cuban diplomacy warned that the prevailing scenario jeopardizes peaceful coexistence among nations and multilateralism.
During his visit to Paris, Rodríguez was received at UNESCO headquarters by its Director-General, Khaled El-Enany, whom he thanked for the organization’s support of national efforts in the fields of education, science, and culture, particularly in identifying resources and mobilizing funds to address the impact of the US embargo.
The foreign minister also met with the Cuban State Mission in France, accompanied by Ambassador Otto Vaillant.
