The United States government has always considered the military option to overthrow the Cuban Revolution, according to historian and analyst Ernesto Limia.
The Cuban lawyer and writer is currently holding a series of lectures in Uruguay, this time before leaders and members of the Broad Front at their headquarters, the Huella de Seregni, on Colonia Street in this capital city. “Latin America: A Zone of Peace? The Challenges Facing the Peoples in the Face of the Trump Administration” was the title of his presentation, in which he emphasized the dangers looming over his country and the region.
Limia stated that the 2014 decision by the presidents of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to preserve the territory as a region of peace is a proposal that is still under development and faces threats from the White House.
There, he said, are the hawks and representatives of the white supremacists who constitute President Donald Trump’s electoral base.
For them, peace is that which the United States imposes by force to preserve its interests, particularly control of natural resources and oil.
Limia commented that at this point, the Monroe Doctrine has been superseded by Washington’s hegemonic ambitions.
The “America” motto for Americans is now followed by “the world” for the US, as demonstrated by the attack on Venezuela, the reinforced blockade of Cuba, the declared intentions to annex Greenland, and the aggression against Iran.
Trump wants to rule the world, the speaker said before an audience that included the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, the Minister of Labor and Social Security and former Secretary General of the Uruguayan Communist Party, Juan Castillo, and the Cuban ambassador, Lissett Pérez.
Donald Trump is a coward, he pointed out, and warned that this makes him even more dangerous because of the lethal military force he has at his back and his confessed decision to disregard international law in order to impose his imperial designs.
