India’s solidarity conveys love and support to Cuba

by Ed Newman

India’s Solidarity conveyed a message of love and support to Cuba today to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez at an event against the United States’ siege and threats against the Caribbean nation.

At the well-attended meeting, organized by the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), the Cuban Foreign Minister detailed the difficult situation facing Cuba due to the intensification of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade.

Before representatives of left-wing political parties from the South Asian nation and the diplomatic corps of Colombia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and other countries, Rodríguez referred to the devastating impact of the energy embargo imposed this year by President Donald Trump on Cuba’s electricity generation, causing prolonged power outages and difficulties in water pumping, liquefied gas supply, and food distribution.

He denounced the situation, stating that it affects transportation and medical services, and that it has doubled infant mortality in the last period, along with delays in surgical procedures for nearly one hundred thousand patients, including children.

Bruno Rodríguez also called for mobilization to prevent a military adventure against Cuba that would provoke a humanitarian catastrophe, bloodshed, and the destabilization of the region.

Furthermore, he urged those present in their communities, families, and organizations to discuss Cuba, the US siege, and its intentions to destroy a country known for its humanitarian work and internationalist principles.

The top Cuban diplomat added that the US government publicly formalized, for the first time, an offer of humanitarian aid to Cuba valued at $100 million, without clarifying whether it would be in cash or in kind, nor its intended use.

Rodríguez emphasized that Cubans do not typically reject foreign aid offered in good faith and with genuine cooperative aims.

However, he emphasized that the best help the United States government could provide would be to de-escalate the energy, economic, commercial, and financial blockade measures.

Finally, Bruno Rodriguez expressed his gratitude for the support shown by India and Cuba, whom he considered two sister nations.

Earlier, Arun Kumar, Secretary General of AIPSO, announced a new campaign aimed at collecting aid for the Caribbean nation and honoring the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the centennial year of his birth.

The member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) added that from August 13 to November 25, activities such as an exhibition of 100 photographs of Fidel, as well as cultural and sporting events, will take place.

The campaign will continue throughout the rest of the year with commemorations of Ernesto “Che” Guevara in October and in January to celebrate the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
