Cuba is not an enemy of the United States, nor does it want to be, stated Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, in an exclusive interview in New York with the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina S.A.
After concluding a working visit to the United Nations, where he denounced the energy blockade and the military threat against his country, Rodríguez Parrilla declared that Cuba has a deep commitment to peace, and dismissed the notion that it constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States.
The Cuban foreign minister explained that the argument of the supposed threat seeks to manipulate public opinion and justify genocidal coercive measures that cause extraordinary humanitarian damage.
He insisted that Cuba is not a threat to the U.S., neither in national security nor in foreign policy, given that it is a small nation facing a nuclear superpower and has always contributed to preserving regional and international peace.
Bruno Rodriguez recalled that the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace was signed in Havana, considered an essential contribution of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Revolution, to Cuban foreign policy.
The foreign minister noted that fraternal ties exist between the people of Cuba and the United States, and that the majority of U.S. citizens and Cubans residing there favor the normalization of relations and reject a military adventure.
The island’s top diplomat denounced the U.S. government’s cognitive, psychological, and cultural warfare against Cuba, supported by digital platforms and traditional media, with the aim of manipulating information and concealing the truth.
Regarding the recent indictment against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, he called the charges infamous and illegal, recalled the 1996 violations of Cuban airspace by those involved, and asserted that the downing of the small planes occurred on Cuban territory, despite prior warnings from the Cuban government.
Bruno Rodríguez emphasized that the decision seeks to create additional pretexts to justify a military intervention, tighten the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, and apply secondary sanctions, but reaffirmed that the Cuban people will defend the Revolution and their historical leaders.
On the bilateral dialogue, he lamented the lack of progress and the contradictory conduct of the State Department, although he reiterated Cuba’s willingness to resolve differences through diplomatic means, based on mutual respect and international law.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez highlighted that the UN Security Council listened attentively to Cuba’s complaint and supported positions in defense of peace, multilateralism, and the self-determination of peoples.
