The city of Alicante will host a tribute concert to Silvio Rodríguez on Saturday, June 13th, at 8:00 p.m. in solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people. The event will take place at the headquarters of Esquerra Unida-PCPV in Alicante, located at 37 Pintor Murillo Street.
The initiative is organized by the Alicante Singer-Songwriter Association “La Explanada,” with the collaboration of Esquerra Unida Alacant, the PCPV, the “Miguel Hernández” Association of Friendship with Cuba, and the Murcia Singer-Songwriter Association (AMCA).
The concert is part of the “Energy for Cuba” campaign, launched by the solidarity movement with the island to help alleviate the severe effects of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which greatly hinders the acquisition of fuel, equipment, technology, and essential resources for the Cuban population.
As part of this campaign, the “Miguel Hernández” Friendship Association with Cuba in Alicante has already acquired eight 5 KVA solar energy kits, for a total value of €24,400. The equipment, purchased from the Italian company Barrel, which has offices in Cuba, is already on the island and will be installed in medical centers in the municipality of Guamá, in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
These efforts have been made possible thanks to the collaboration of Sodepaz, an organization that has supported the solidarity project aimed at strengthening the energy capacity of Cuban healthcare facilities in a context of enormous difficulties caused by US sanctions.
The event on June 13th will serve both to raise new funds for the “Energy for Cuba” campaign and to denounce the blockade that the United States government maintains against the Caribbean nation, a policy condemned for decades by the vast majority of the international community and which has a direct impact on the living conditions of the population.
The organizers also present the concert as an act of resounding support for the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people, highlighting their dignity and resilience in the face of economic aggression aimed at causing scarcity, suffering, and social destabilization.
In addition to the musical performance, there will be mojitos and a solidarity bar. Admission will be a €10 donation to the campaign, which will include a free CD.
