by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, June 9 (RHC) – The Official Gazette of the Federation published today a decree from the Government instructing that remote work be prioritized and classes be suspended next Thursday in this capital due to the opening of the 2026 World Cup.

According to reports, the purpose is to improve mobility, road safety, and accessibility for residents and visitors of the city during the opening of the event at the Azteca Stadium (Estadio Ciudad de México).

The regulations stipulate the implementation of remote work arrangements for that day only.

Therefore, federal government employees and agencies must prioritize the use of information and communication technologies to ensure the proper performance of their substantive and administrative functions.

Furthermore, the private and social sectors are urged to implement teleworking schemes for all non-essential administrative activities, and classes are suspended for all educational levels.

This edition of the premier football tournament will be the first with 48 teams and will be hosted by 16 cities in North America: three in Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey), 11 in the United States, and two in Canada.
