“Cuba is not an unusual threat to the United States; there is no valid reason for military aggression against the island,” said Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic, on Saturday at the conclusion of the International Solidarity Meeting at the Convention Palace in Havana.
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba emphasized the importance of solidarity, gratitude, and recognition toward those who show courage and resolve in supporting just causes, especially in difficult contexts like that of Cuba.
Díaz-Canel highlighted Cuba’s role as a mediator in the region. It was from the island that Latin America and the Caribbean were declared a zone of peace, and Cuba was chosen for the historic meeting between the Vatican and the Russian Orthodox Church. He emphasized that this country is peaceful and that social models based on justice and humanity are needed.
He recalled that this May Day was an historic day, with more than 80 percent of the active population over 16 years of age signing for peace and against war. More than five million Cubans marched throughout the country for sovereignty and against war. “This is not the failed state they try to portray it as,” the President affirmed.
The young people participated in the parade as part of their people, coming out to defend the Revolution as the youth of the Centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, despite the complex economic situation the country faces due to the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.
He referred to the manipulation and distortion that seeks to make people break with their roots, their identity, and their culture. That is why they attack the culture and history of the Cuban people, and it is also a media war waged through digital networks and mass media to highlight supremacist values, xenophobia, and to assassinate reputations, Díaz-Canel said.
