China condemns military threats against Cuba

by Ed Newman

China has expressed its firm rejection of any use of force against Cuba and urged the United States to immediately cease military threats and the blockade imposed on the island.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian responded to recent reports indicating that high-ranking officials at the U.S. Department of Defense considered the possibility of military action against Cuba.

The spokesman stated that Beijing took note of these reports and emphasized that the use or threat of force in international relations seriously violates the UN Charter and endangers regional and international peace and security.

Lin Jian reiterated that China firmly opposes such actions and recalled that the UN General Assembly recently decided, by an overwhelming majority, to continue the debate on the need to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.

According to the spokesperson, this decision reflects the voice of justice from the international community in support of the island.

The spokesperson urged the United States to immediately cease threats of the use of force and any form of blockade against the Caribbean nation.

Lin reaffirmed that China will continue to firmly support Cuba in defending its national sovereignty and will maintain its opposition to all external interference.

Beijing has repeatedly called on the United States to immediately end the blockade and sanctions against the island, considering that these measures severely affect the people’s basic livelihoods and violate their right to development.
