Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his thanks to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the donation of 48 tons of powdered milk sent to the Caribbean nation.
Through the social network X, the president described the aid as a gesture of “genuine solidarity” and expressed his appreciation to the Brazilian president for sending the humanitarian assistance.
“Our deepest gratitude to our brother President Lula and his noble people for the valuable donation of powdered milk.”
Díaz-Canel added that this act of solidarity, received in the province of Santiago de Cuba, will be primarily distributed to children in the eastern provinces.
The official handover of the donation was carried out by the Brazilian ambassador to Havana, Christian Vargas, who delivered it to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Oscar Pérez-Oliva, the ministry reported.
On the same digital platform, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also thanked the Brazilian government and stated that the gesture of solidarity demonstrates that Cuba “is not alone” in the face of the economic difficulties it is experiencing.
According to the Granma newspaper, the first shipment of 16 tons of the donation arrived in Cuba this Tuesday, and the unloading and transport operation is taking place in a context marked by the tightening of the blockade and the fuel import restrictions imposed by the United States government.
According to press reports, the aid was agreed upon after a meeting led by President Lula with ministers and high-ranking officials of his government, with the aim of helping to address the shortages affecting the Caribbean nation.
