Chinese ambassador to Cuba denounces illegality of the blockade against the island

by Ed Newman

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cuba, Hua Xin, recently denounced the profound suffering caused by the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than six decades on the population of the largest island of the Antilles.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the diplomat emphasized his country’s firm opposition to any form of extraterritorial economic pressure and strongly condemned the unilateral actions that ignore the majority will of the international community for an end to the hostile policy against the Caribbean nation.

This stance aligns with the Asian giant’s historical position each year in the votes in favor of the Cuban resolution at the United Nations, which advocates for an end to the blockade against the archipelago.

The statement of solidarity comes at a time of escalating threats and blackmail of aggression from the U.S. administration, as expressed by Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who stated on social media that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is lying when he denies the existence of an oil embargo imposed on the island.

The Cuban foreign minister contradicted Rubio, pointing out that his rhetoric is not supported by statements made by the current occupant of the White House and other representatives of the U.S. government apparatus.

Bruno Rodríguez also recalled the continued existence of the Executive Order signed by President Donald Trump, which threatens tariffs on countries that export fuel to Cuba, and the inclusion of a new Executive Order, dated May 1, which establishes secondary sanctions in the energy sector, exacerbating the oil embargo.
