Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced on Thursday at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting the threat of direct military aggression and the energy blockade imposed by the United States against his country.

In his address to the multilateral forum, the Cuban foreign minister strongly rejected President Donald Trump’s executive orders of January 29 and May 1, as well as the decisions of the Treasury Department of May 7, which reinforce the economic embargo against the island to extreme levels.

Bruno Rodríguez explained that the blockade causes extraordinary human damage, with extreme suffering and deprivation for Cuban families. He also detailed that the energy blockade has impacted electricity generation, causing prolonged power outages and difficulties in water pumping, liquefied gas supply, and food distribution.

The island’s foreign minister specified that these measures affect transportation, medical services, and the lives of the Cuban people.

Although infant mortality remains low, he noted, it has doubled in the last period, and nearly 100,000 patients, including 12,000 children, are awaiting surgery.

The head of Cuban diplomacy called on the international community to mobilize to prevent a military adventure against Cuba that would provoke a humanitarian catastrophe, bloodshed, and the destabilization of the region.

“Creating scarcity, deprivation, and total suffocation to provoke a social situation that leads to the overthrow of the Cuban Revolution has always been the true objective of the United States’ hostility.”

Despite the adverse context, the foreign minister emphasized that the Cuban people have demonstrated unity, determination, and great resilience.

“In just over a year, with the support of nations such as China, Russia, Vietnam, and India, Cuba has achieved sustained progress in energy sovereignty.”

The minister advocated for the promotion of new cooperation projects that accelerate innovation, as well as the creation of a BRICS repository for science and research serving the nations of the Global South.

Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed his country’s firm commitment to upholding international law and building a more just, equitable, and democratic order.

He also expressed his gratitude for the support and solidarity shown by the vast majority of the international community, particularly the BRICS member states and partners.

“You can always count on our willingness and modest contribution to these legitimate and urgent goals of the peoples of the Global South,” he concluded.
