Havana, May 14 (RHC) – Industriales once again imposed their will today at the Calixto García stadium with a devastating offensive to knock out Holguín 16-2 and reinforce their dominance in the IV Elite League of Cuban Baseball.
Like a storm without warning, the Lions unleashed seven runs in the first inning, leaving the Cubs breathless and setting the pace of a game tilted in their favor from the very beginning.
The capital city’s offense found resonance in the bats of Jonathan Bridón, who hit a grand slam that ignited the stands; Yaser Julio González, who went deep twice, bringing his tournament total to six and taking the lead; and Yoangel La O, with a solo home run. Leonardo Alarcón added a homer for the home team.
Although Andy Vargas started for the Leones, it was reliever Jordan Williams who kept the game under control, limiting the damage and securing the victory on opposing turf.
Holguín, on the other hand, paid dearly for their defensive lapses and the ineffectiveness of their starter, Wilson Paredes, who was punished with nine runs in four innings, each error widening the gap on the scoreboard.
In San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque and Las Tunas split a doubleheader, with the Huracanes taking the first game 5-1 thanks to Héctor Bermúdez’s dominant performance. The Leñadores then rallied to win 6-3, fueled by timely offense and a strong start from Yosmel Garcés.
Rain once again disrupted the schedule, preventing the game between Artemisa and Matanzas for the second consecutive day. Industriales remains atop the standings with an 8-3 record, followed by Artemisa (5-4), Las Tunas (6-5), Holguín (5-6), Matanzas (4-5), and Mayabeque (3-8).
