Cuba Falls to Jamaica in their Second Match of the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, October 26 (RHC) – The Cuban Under-15 team lost 0-1 to Jamaica in their second match of Group AB of the FIFA Under-15 World Cup and Festival Azerbaijan 2026, in a game where the team showed stretches of good football, but failed to convert their chances.

The Cuban team was far superior in the first half. They controlled possession well and played with confidence, though they couldn’t translate that superiority into goals.

The decisive factor came at the end of the first half: a defensive error allowed Jamaica to take a 1-0 lead. That goal changed the course of a match that, until then, had seen Cuba in the lead.

In the second half, the young Lions of the Caribbean reacted to the deficit and nearly overwhelmed their opponent. The team adjusted their system with two forwards and implemented a high press that unsettled Jamaica and pushed them back into their own half.

As a result of this pressure and the change in formation, Cuba created several scoring opportunities. However, their lack of finishing prevented them from equalizing and salvaging at least a point.

The match can be summarized as a good performance at a high cost: the defensive error at the end of the first half and the lack of clinical finishing in the second. Jamaica secured a narrow victory.

With this result, Cuba will need to correct defensive details and improve their shooting for the upcoming group matches. The team showed resilience and the ability to compete, but they need to convert that superiority into goals.

The demanding schedule of this tournament will see them back on the field in a few hours against the Czech Republic; they could potentially face the two strongest opponents in the group on the same day.

To finish as high as possible, they must correct their lack of accuracy and avoid defensive errors.

Currently, the Cubans have a record of one win and one loss after defeating Togo in their opening match.
