Havana, August 6 (RHC) – Cuban José Pelier Córdova won the gold medal today in the men’s 1000 meter canoeing event at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
Pelier dominated the final held at the Rincón Dam Rowing and Canoeing Center, stopping the clock at four minutes, nine seconds, and 17 hundredths of a second, a result that allowed him to lead the competition from start to finish.
Mexican Guillermo Quirino Medrano staged a comeback in the second half of the race to take the silver medal with a time of 4:16.02, while Colombian Daniel Pacheco earned the bronze with a time of 4:20.10.
Fourth place went to Venezuelan Reinaldo Argüello Narváez (4:27.74), followed by Guatemalan Luis Carrera Rivas (4:28.12).
Dominican Bladimir García Mejía finished sixth with a time of 4:46.06.
With this victory, Pelier confirmed his status as favorite after leading the race from the first heat and gave Cuba a new title in the canoeing program of the regional multi-sport event.
