Havana, August 6 (RHC) – The closing ceremony of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, to be held on August 8, will be conceived as a tribute to the athletes, volunteers and collaborators who made the success of the event possible, it was revealed today.
After an opening ceremony that captivated the audience with a high-caliber production, audiovisual effects, and a celebration of Dominican history and culture, the closing ceremony at the Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto Arena will bring 16 days of competition to a close with special recognition for coaches, sports leaders, sponsors, and institutions that contributed to the Games’ success.
The production has been designed as a gathering place for the Central American and Caribbean sports community, where participating delegations will reunite to celebrate the values of integration, respect, friendship, and solidarity that have distinguished this event for a century.
Volunteers will be prominently featured during the ceremony as a token of gratitude for their dedication and commitment to assisting athletes, officials, and visitors throughout the competition.
The program will include artistic and audiovisual moments specially prepared to express gratitude for the support of the athletes, delegations, sponsors, and collaborators who made the organization possible, as well as the Dominican people, whose response transformed Santo Domingo 2026 into a true celebration of regional sport.
As is tradition at the closing ceremonies of these types of events, the event will allow for a formal farewell to the delegations and recognition of the collective effort.
One of the most anticipated moments of the evening will be the performance by Juan Luis Guerra, who will sing “Canto a la Patria,” a song he composed and donated to the Dominican State in 2006. His performance will be a tribute to the country.
With more than four decades of experience and a renowned international presence, the artist will provide the musical backdrop to a ceremony designed to bring the 25th edition of the Games to a moving close.
“Receiving this gift from the maestro is an honor for the entire country.” “Closing the Games’ centennial celebration with his voice will be an unforgettable moment,” said Alberto Zayas, general producer and creative director of the ceremonies.
For his part, José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee, stated that “the fact that maestro Juan Luis Guerra will be at the closing of these Games confirms what they have been from day one: a national cause.”
With this gala, Santo Domingo 2026 will bid farewell to a historic edition that leaves behind a legacy of renovated sports facilities, greater organizational capacity, and the strengthening of sport as a bridge of integration among the peoples of Central America and the Caribbean.
