Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Le Minh Hung, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, which began this Saturday in India.
On the social media X, the island’s foreign minister described the meeting as very productive, and emphasized that both sides highlighted the historic bonds of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity that unite the two socialist countries.
“I explained the difficult situation facing Cuba, caused by the energy embargo, the tightening of the blockade, and the secondary sanctions that are causing serious humanitarian damage.”
The Cuban foreign minister, who is leading the island’s delegation in New Delhi, also noted that they exchanged views on the measures adopted by the Communist Party of Cuba and the government to resume the path of economic recovery, alleviate the hardships faced by the Cuban people, and confront the consequences of the US policy of economic strangulation.
According to the Prensa Latina news agency, Cuba will participate tomorrow, Sunday, in the open session of the meeting, as an associate member of the bloc.
The BRICS group was initially composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and expanded in 2024 with the addition of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran, and in 2025 with the inclusion of Indonesia.
Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam are partner states.
