Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his gratitude on Wednesday to 43 heads of state and government, fellow foreign ministers, and other heads of delegation in New York for their statements at the UN General Assembly condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
In messages posted on the social network X, the head of the Cuban delegation to the General Debate of the High-Level Segment of the 81st session expressed his appreciation for the calls to end the energy blockade and secondary sanctions.
Bruno Rodríguez noted that condemnation was also voiced regarding Cuba’s inclusion on the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism, as well as the collective punishment and humanitarian damage resulting from U.S. policy.
In another post on the same platform, Cuba’s foreign minister condemned the new wave of blockade measures, including the elimination of people-to-people exchanges and restrictions on academic and research ties.
Cuba’s top diplomat explained that prohibitions preventing Cuban private entities from conducting direct business with the United States and U.S. banks are being reinforced, alongside the ban on “U-turn” transactions.
The Cuban foreign minister added that indirect operations with entities on the State Department’s unilateral list of restricted entities are prohibited, noting the irony that the Secretary of State himself recently declared that “Cuba has already fallen,” yet the U.S. now finds it necessary to implement additional measures.
Rodríguez Parrilla warned that the new measures aim to hinder the ongoing process of economic transformation and affect both the public and private sectors.
“Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is,” the island’s foreign minister emphasized in his statements.
