Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz urged increased food production as a key means of defending the homeland during his accountability report to the People’s Power Assembly of the Holguín municipality of Gibara, in his capacity as a member of the Cuban Parliament representing that district.
The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba also emphasized in his address this Saturday the need for municipal governments to seek solutions and alternatives to the population’s problems, including increasing coal production, he noted.
He emphasized the growth of the socialist project in the approval of the 176 economic and social reforms ratified last June by the highest legislative body, as a process of adapting to the current conditions imposed by the economic embargo of the United States government on the island.
Among the measures adopted, Marrero Cruz highlighted the role of joint ventures with import and investment capabilities in raw materials, a strategy that allows for boosting productive autonomy and the development of local forces.
The head of government warned that municipalities must identify existing shortcomings and difficulties that can be addressed through the approved changes, and convene economic stakeholders as part of territorial development.
The key areas related to taxes, pricing policy, the banking and financial system, exports, tourism, transportation, and the other ratified actions were outlined during the Prime Minister’s address.
He cautioned that as the economic strategies are implemented, the most urgent social problems in the territory must be resolved, and differentiated attention must be guaranteed for those most in need.
She reflected on the private sector’s reluctance to accept digital payments, as well as the percentage applied to products purchased through these payment gateways, and the housing situation in the region.
The measures are aimed at finding solutions to mitigate the challenges in priority sectors, and their monitoring and evaluation will be guided by 115 regulatory actions.
During the session, the authorities leading the municipal body were elected, as part of strengthening its structure and in accordance with the personnel policy, according to the delegates.
As a result of the vote, Sonia Adelaida Chacón Fernández was elected president and Alexei Lorenzo Leyva vice president of the Municipal Assembly.
Chacón Fernández, who is also a member of Parliament for this municipality, reaffirmed her commitment to the voters to improve the management of People’s Power, address citizens’ complaints and requests, and promote programs aimed at improving the quality of life for the people.
