Havana, June 11 (RHC) – The Huracanes de Mayabeque unleashed an unrelenting offensive today at the Julio Antonio Mella stadium, knocking out Las Tunas 13-1 and returning to qualifying positions in the Cuban Baseball Elite League.
Like a relentless whirlwind, the squad managed by Osmel Cordero punished the opposing pitching with 13 hits, building a lopsided score that secured their 15th victory and propelled them into fourth place in the standings.
The offense was spearheaded by Jeison Martínez, who hit a double and a home run with four RBIs, and Lázaro Ponce, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, setting the tone for the game.
On the mound, Kevin Hernández delivered a solid seven-inning start, allowing just two hits and striking out four, while Enyer Fernández took the loss after surrendering five earned runs on four hits and issuing five walks in three innings.
At Victoria de Girón Stadium, the Cazadores de Artemisa lost ground in the standings, falling 9-6 to the Matanzas Crocodiles, who scored a decisive six runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.
The Matanzas offense was led by Hanyelo Videt, who once again displayed his power with a home run and an RBI single. He was well supported by Eduardo Blanco and Yariel Duque, both of whom had two hits and two RBIs on a night of timely hitting.
Yandro Daudinot made his debut for Matanzas, pitching six innings and allowing only two runs, both on a home run by Harold Vázquez. Omar David Pérez took the loss, hampered by defensive errors that resulted in four unearned runs.
At Latinoamericano Stadium, the Cachorros de Holguín secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Industriales thanks to a decisive hit by Lázaro Cedeño in the ninth inning, breaking the tie off reliever Jordan Williams.
Michael Gorguet and Euclides Pérez had tied the game with consecutive home runs, while Luis Vicente Mateo contributed two doubles and an RBI, in a game that solidified the northeastern team’s hold on third place in the standings.
After the game, Industriales maintains its lead with a 21-12 record, followed by Las Tunas (17-14), Holguín (17-16), Mayabeque (15-17), Artemisa (14-17), and Matanzas (11-19), in a standings that remains tight throughout the season.
