Hundreds of young Italians from various organizations reaffirmed their rejection of the United States’ genocidal policy against Cuba during an assembly in the southern Italian region of Campania.
Marco Papacci, president of the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (Anaic), spoke to Prensa Latina about the meeting in support of the Cuban people, held yesterday as part of the so-called Revolution Camp, a youth gathering that takes place every summer in the coastal area of ​​the city of Paestum.
The debate, which analyzed the democracy that characterizes the Cuban revolutionary process and the specifics of the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against that nation, was coordinated by the Network of Secondary School Students (RSM) and the Union of University Students (UDU).
The event included presentations by Papacci and Carlos Gutiérrez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Italy, and a marked interest among the young Italians in the specifics of the Cuban Constitution, the new Family Code, and participatory democracy.
The speakers referred to the upcoming celebration, on August 13, of the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and emphasized the enduring relevance and importance of his example and ideas.
The intensification of the blockade during the current administration of President Donald Trump was also addressed, with the approval of new measures, including an energy embargo and other similar actions, aimed at maximizing the impact on the country’s economy and the lives of the Cuban people.
A particularly moving moment marked the close of the assembly, when the student body united to unfurl two large banners in solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, while blue, white, and red flares were launched, painting the sky with the colors of the Caribbean nation’s flag, he noted.
In those final moments of the event, young members of the RSM, the UDU, and other groups filled the central square of the Revolution Camp in Paestum with slogans of solidarity, demonstrating the firm support of the Italian student movement for the Cuban people.
“The massive turnout and the youthful enthusiasm demonstrate how the new generations are ready to fight against any injustice and to strongly support the principles of self-determination and solidarity among peoples,” Papacci emphasized in his statements to Prensa Latina.
