The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) of North Dakota approved a resolution rejecting the unilateral coercive measures of the United States government against Cuba.
In endorsing Resolution 13, the union expressed its firm rejection of the blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation and demands the immediate repeal of Executive Order 14380, signed by President Donald Trump on January 29, which declares a national emergency regarding Cuba and led to an oil embargo.
The organization urged the U.S. government and Congress to end the blockade preventing oil from reaching the island, to remove Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOTs), and to move toward normalizing bilateral relations based on mutual respect and sovereignty.
Speaking at the recent Seventh Ordinary Session of the Tenth Legislature of the National Assembly, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced that only one oil tanker had entered Cuba in the last seven months.
This serious energy crisis, the head of state warned, is linked to the United States’ attempt at economic strangulation with the aim of “provoking a social explosion” in the island nation.
“The economic and social implications of this collective punishment are humanly unbearable,” Díaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account.
So far in 2016, Cuba has suffered six total blackouts due to the disconnection of the National Energy System (SEN).
