The deepest conviction, that inspired by the heroes and martyrs of July 26th, and despite the adverse conditions facing the nation, the main task of all revolutionaries is to save the Revolution and the Homeland, was unequivocally expressed by Susely Morfa González, member of the Party’s Central Committee and its first secretary in this territory, during her address at the provincial event commemorating National Rebellion Day.
The event, which was attended by the Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa; Yudà RodrÃguez Hernández, member of the Secretariat of the Party’s Central Committee and head of the services department; and Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, Deputy Prime Minister, paid tribute to the leader of that movement on the centenary of his birth.
Likewise, the presence of six residents of Villa Clara during the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks was commemorated: Abel and Haydée SantamarÃa, Roberto Mederos, Elpidio Sosa, Pablo Agüero, and Osvaldo Socarrás. They received a well-deserved tribute from those in attendance.
The celebration, which took place in a province recognized for its outstanding performance in the commemoration, highlighted the achievements that motivated the Political Bureau’s decision. Among these, Morfa González emphasized the close ties forged between the private and public sectors in promoting diverse initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of the population.
He added that despite the numerous challenges facing the economy, it is highly commendable that the province has a budget surplus. He specified that by the end of this month, the surplus had already exceeded 1.256 billion bolivars, surpassing the annual target, a figure to which six municipalities contributed.
Another significant achievement is the distribution of more than 17,500 hectares of land, far exceeding the initial projections for this phase. This is in addition to the notable increases in tobacco production, which have made Villa Clara, along with Pinar del RÃo, one of the country’s leading tobacco-producing provinces.
She also mentioned the significant indicator of zero maternal deaths and an infant mortality rate of 6.6, figures below the national average, as well as the substantial investment underway in the province’s main healthcare institutions.
Despite these results, Villa Clara faces many more challenges to live up to the expectations of its people and the legacy of the Moncada attack, noted the province’s top political leader. She called for the implementation of the 176 measures recently approved by the national leadership, as well as other more specific initiatives that will contribute to improving the quality of life for the people of Villa Clara.
Caibarién was selected to host the National Rebellion Day celebration due to its consistently strong socioeconomic indicators over the past year, with significant progress in food production, tourism, health, and fishing, among other achievements.
Following the commemoration, the Vice President of the Republic toured several revitalized sites in the White City, designed to enhance public recreation. These included the San Pascual bar and restaurant, the Villa Cayo Conuco complex, and the Palmares Sports Bar. He inquired about the food offerings, prices, and how the state and non-state sectors had collaborated to achieve these results.
