by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, September 15 (RHC) – Rayo Vallecano dominated Espanyol today in the sixth round of the Spanish first division of football with goals from Adrià Pedrosa and Álvaro García.

Midfielder Álvaro García opened the scoring for Benat San José’s side just minutes into the match, firing a penalty past opposing goalkeeper Marko Dimitrovic.

Just minutes later, the same midfielder switched roles, assisting his teammate Adrià Pedrosa, who scored the second goal for the Madrid-based team.

Forward Roberto Fernández pulled one back for Espanyol with his sixth goal of the season, tying him with the league leaders.

As the match entered its final stages and Manolo González’s men were pushing forward in search of an equalizer, full-back Omar El Hilali was sent off for handling the ball during an attack.

Despite the victory, Rayo Vallecano remains in 12th place in the standings with seven points, the same as their opponents, but ahead on goal difference.
