Cuba received a new shipment of humanitarian aid from Mexico on Friday, the thirteenth such shipment, which arrived along with donations from member countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
At the welcoming ceremony, William Díaz, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the Mexican people and government, as well as the valuable contributions of the CARICOM member states to the Cuban people.
In his remarks, he emphasized that the aid arrives in a context marked by the intensification of the US economic blockade against Cuba, which limits access to food, medicine, and fuel.
In this vein, the Mexican Ambassador to Cuba, Miguel Díaz, emphasized how this year he has witnessed, alongside the Cuban people, the “illegal and condemnable punishment of the tightening of the energy blockade,” and reiterated that “Cuba is not alone.”
“We must continue and repeat these acts of solidarity, however small they may be. Time and again we will do what we can to support Cuba in these difficult times,” affirmed the Ambassador of Guyana to Cuba, Halim Majeed, representing CARICOM.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) highlighted in a Facebook post that this new shipment constitutes a concrete expression of solidarity and brotherhood, reaffirming the historic ties of cooperation between Cuba, Mexico, and the countries of the bloc.
The reception ceremony was attended by officials from MINCEX, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic corps from Caribbean countries belonging to CARICOM, and representatives of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID).
