Cuban weightlifters to Attend Continental Tournament in Cali

Havana, July 7 (RHC) - The Cali 2025 Pan American Senior Weightlifting Championship will be inaugurated next Sunday at the Miguel Calero Coliseum in Cali, Colombia, and will be attended by six Cubans.

The women's team will be made up of Ludia Montero (48 kg), Yeniuska Mirabal (77), and Marifélix Sarría (+86), while for the men, Arley Calderón (65), Edisnel Corrales (79), and Ariolvis Begué (88) will make the trip.

According to information provided by the National Weightlifting Commission, the group that will go to the continental event will be flagged off this Thursday at the Manuel Suarez Fernandez gymnasium of the Cerro Pelado Sports School.

The competition, which will be held under the technical and competition regulations of the international federation of this sport, will last until July 18.

More than 200 weightlifters from 23 countries are expected to participate in the different official categories. The women's competition will be held in the 48, 53, 58, 63, 69, 69, 77, 86, and over 86 kilograms divisions; and the men's competition will be held in the 60, 65, 71, 79, 88, 94, 110, and +110 kilograms divisions.

The competition to be held in the capital of Colombia's Valle del Cauca, in addition to the actions on the platforms, will host anti-doping and training events for coaches, according to the organizing committee.

So far, it is foreseen that the first divisions in competition will be the 48 kg for women and 60 kg for men.

The event will not be endorsed as a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026.
