Havana, June 9 (RHC) - With two significantly revitalized teams, Cuba will compete in the Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which will begin in Panama City.

Diorges Escobar, gold medalist at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, and Yohendri Villaverde are the “veterans” of a men's team that also includes Alexander Sánchez, Argenis Casteñeda, and Darian Rodríguez.

As a team, the men have not competed since 2023, but national commissioner Pedro Pablo Barrios believes that they are now sufficiently prepared to achieve their main objective for the event: the qualification for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.

Keyla Leyva, winner of the recent national trials, Gélidis Reginfo, Maykelis Rivero, and Danny Roll make up the team that will face the first big test with the Podium exercise.

On Thursday, the 12th, the men will showcase their selections as a prelude to the competitive segment, scheduled to kick off with the team competitions for the highest points total.

The women's all-around competition is scheduled for the 13th, and the individual finals will be held on the 14th and 15th.

According to announcements from the headquarters at the Figali Convention Center in Amador, competitors from 24 countries will gather, and as a new feature, the platform on which the apparatuses are mounted is elevated, similar to major world events.
