USA, Jun 17 (PL) Argentine club River Plate defeated Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds three goals to one today in its debut in the World Club Soccer Championship.
As part of Group E at Lumen Field in Seattle, Facundo Colidio scored the first goal in the 12th minute and Sebastián Driussi also headed in the 48th.
The Japanese side pulled one back thanks to a penalty taken by Yusuke Matsuo in the 58th minute, but in the last half hour, far from getting close, they conceded the third, also through the air, by Maximiliano Meza (73).
Earlier, Brazil's Fluminense and Germany's Borussia Dortmund were held to a 0-0 draw at the start of the F section, in a match in which the Auriverdes missed four clear goal-scoring chances.
Meanwhile, Mexico's Monterrey and Italy's Inter Milan will complete the first round of matches in section E, while South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai and South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns will do the same in section F.
