Guantánamo knocked out the current runner-up Ciego de Avila 14-1 on Monday in the continuation of 54th Cuban Baseball Championship, which consolidated Matanzas in front of the list of teams.

Sport Fishing Tournament

The UK crew of the vessel Coral White currently leads the 5th Jardines del Rey "Big Game Trolling" International Fishing Tournament, with 411 points in the first two days.

The event takes place at the International Marina Marlin of Cayo Guillermo, in the north coast of Ciego de Avila province, with 9 vessels from the United Kingdom, France, Canada and Cuba.

According to experts, the results so far show that there is a great potential of marine species in the north-east area between Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, where the competition takes place.

Kenya González, commercial director of the Marina Cayo Guillermo, said the event will be carried out under the rules of the International Association of Sport Fishing, using a system to mark and release with the purpose to protect marine environment.

The event will present 3 awards, for the top 3 accumulated scores, for the first catch and for the largest dorado fish.

In addition, a special award to the team that manages to capture 3 of the species included in the competition: White marlin, blue marlin, dorado and tuna, will be granted.

José Ramón Cuza, president of the Cuban Federation of Sport Fishing highlighted the favorable climatic conditions and beneficial aspects for the competition.
He noted that the Jardines del Rey Fishing Tournament is included within the circuit of yachting events in Cuba and the Caribbean, out of the Marina Ernest Hemingway, in Havana, that each year attracts lovers of this recreational sport.

Cayo Guillermo is notorious for its natural and breathtaking seabed, surrounded by a wonderful coral reef and has over 100,000 rooms in the Meliá Cayo Guillermo, Sol Cayo Guillermo, Iberostar Daiquiri, and Allegro Club Cayo Guillermo touristic resorts.

Special Olympic Swimmers Will Go to Toronto Pan/Parapan American Games

International Open to take place from October 31 to November 7 at Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

The International Paranational Open will take place from Oct 31 to Nov 7 this year in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

The best Mexican swimmers, among them, special Olympic multi-medalist Gustavo Sanchez will compete for selection in the upcoming Pan/Parapan American Games in Toronto as well as the ITC world championships in Scotland next year.

Among the Special Olympics stars participating in the competition are Patricia Valle, Arnulfo Castorena, Doramitzi Gonzalez and Pedro Rangel, all among 185 swimmers from nine countries who will be competing to be selected for the regional Toronto games in 2015.

Swimmers from Colombia, Russia, Ecuador, Argentina, Arab Emirates, Singapore and Egypt will be vying for their spot in the Toronto games at the Playa del Carmen open. All nations except Egypt have confirmed their participation in the meet.

The Mexican swimmers will be accompanied by the President of Mexico’s Para-Olympic Committee Pablo Larraga, and the qualified sports subdirector of the National System of Culture and Sports, Othon Diaz.

The swimmers were selected by athletic associations for the blind and visually impaired, of special sports activities, in wheelchairs and with cerebral palsy.
