Baseball

The top teams and players of the recently concluded 54th National Baseball Series are being recognized today in the Cuban Baseball Gala, with a stage in the Sports City Coliseum here in Havana.

The Cuban Baseball Awards Gala was celebrated for the first time in 2013, in an initiative organized to recognize the performance of the best players on the island, outside the normal framework of the baseball diamonds.

Boxing

The new wave of Cuba's Los Domadores in the semifinal of the V World Series of Boxing (WSB) was scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of May, when they receive the winner between of Azerbaijan's Baku Fires and the Mexico's Los Guerreros.

Judo

The host nation wrapped up the 2015 Pan-American Judo Championships in style on Sunday during the final day of competition at the Saville Community Sports Center in Canada.

The locals won gold and bronze, respectively, in the women's and men's team events to cap off a good showing at the Olympic qualifying tournament, in which they won 2 gold and 5 bronze medals in individual competition on the first two days of the 3-day event.

Canada certainly did the home crowd proud on Sunday. The women defeated Mexico 4-1 in the quarterfinal, Cuba 3-2 in the semi-final, and then up-ended the Brazilians 3-2 for gold. The men, meanwhile, opened with a 4-1 victory over Argentina, before losing 5-0 to Brazil and being relegated to the playoffs, where they regrouped to defeat the Dominican Republic 5-0 and claim bronze, thanks to, in a large part also, to the excellent coaching of Nicolas Gill, Judo Canada’s national head coach and high performance director, who gave high marks to the hosts.
